Self-Acceptance & Identity
Support for self-acceptance in Edmond, Oklahoma
You don’t have to have it all figured out to know you’re worthy.
Questions about who you are, what you value, or how you want to live can feel overwhelming when outside expectations and self-judgment get loud. Therapy offers room to reflect, reconnect with your voice, and build a more accepting relationship with yourself.

Understanding identity
Becoming yourself shouldn’t feel like a battle.
Struggling with identity and self-acceptance can affect how you relate to other people, make decisions, and speak to yourself. You may feel disconnected, uncertain about where you belong, or exhausted from trying to meet expectations that do not fully fit.
Therapy creates space to explore those experiences without judgment or pressure to arrive with a finished answer.

Our approach
Reconnect with yourself—with compassion, not criticism.
Identity work is not about fixing who you are. It is a collaborative process of understanding your story, questioning beliefs that no longer fit, and making room for a more grounded and authentic relationship with yourself.
Explore your values
Clarify what matters to you and how you want those values to shape your choices.
Understand inner narratives
Notice the beliefs and self-judgments that may be keeping doubt or shame in place.
Recognize your strengths
Build from your resilience, insight, and the qualities that are already part of you.
Make room for complexity
Explore different parts of yourself without forcing them into a simple or immediate answer.

Room to become
You are allowed to know yourself in your own time.
Therapy can offer a thoughtful place to explore identity, values, belonging, and self-acceptance without pressure to arrive with a finished answer.

Questions you may have before beginning
Do I need to have an identity crisis to begin therapy?
No. Identity work can be helpful whenever you want to understand yourself more clearly, explore your values, question old expectations, or feel more connected to the way you want to live.
What if I do not know who I am or what I want?
You do not need clarity before beginning. Therapy can provide a place to slow down, notice what feels true or important, and explore uncertainty without pressure to define yourself immediately.
Will I be pushed to share or choose a label?
No. You set the pace and decide what feels useful to explore. Therapy should make room for questions and complexity without pressuring you to disclose more than you are ready to share or adopt a particular label.
Can therapy help with self-criticism and shame?
Therapy can help you notice harsh inner narratives, understand where they may have developed, and practice relating to yourself with more compassion, perspective, and choice.
Is identity exploration only for a certain age or life stage?
No. People may reconsider values, roles, relationships, expectations, and identity at many points in life. Identity exploration is about building self-understanding and self-acceptance at your current stage.
Can therapy for identity and self-acceptance be provided online?
Yes. Acuity Counseling offers in-person therapy in Edmond and online sessions for clients who are physically located in Oklahoma at the time of each appointment.
