Getting started

Beginning therapy at Acuity

What is Acuity Counseling?

Acuity Counseling is a private therapy practice in Edmond offering in-person care and online therapy across Oklahoma. Acuity supports teens, young adults, adults, couples, families, and groups with a range of concerns and goals.

How do I request an appointment?

Use the appointment window to compare current availability and request a time. The clinician reviews the request to confirm that the selected availability is correct. You can also contact Acuity directly if you need help choosing a next step.

What happens during the first therapy session?

Your first session is a chance to get acquainted, discuss what brought you to therapy, and begin identifying what you would like support with. You can share at a pace that feels manageable, ask questions, and talk with your therapist about what working together may look like.

Therapy approaches

How care can be shaped around you

What therapy approaches does Acuity use?

Acuity may draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Internal Family Systems, Motivational Interviewing, Person-Centered Therapy, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, Strengths-Based Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Humanistic Therapy, and creative interventions. The approaches used depend on your needs, goals, and clinician.

How do I know which therapy approach is right for me?

You do not need to choose an approach before beginning. Your therapist can learn what brings you to therapy, discuss your goals and preferences, and explain which approaches may fit. The process remains collaborative and can be revisited as your needs change.

Can a therapist combine different approaches?

Yes. Therapy may include more than one approach when that combination fits your needs and goals. Your therapist can explain what they are using and why, and you can ask questions or share what is and is not feeling useful.
